SDSU’s Recent Triumph over USD

Prior to this dual meet, SDSU had already claimed victory over USD in the annual pentathlon event the previous week, on September 19, achieving a score of 33-24. This recent win extends SDSU’s impressive streak to 14 consecutive pentathlon victories over USD dating back to 2011. In that meet, SDSU swimmers occupied the top 11 positions, illustrating the team’s dominance.

Outstanding Performances in the Pentathlon

Freshman Roni Black emerged as the standout performer by winning the individual title with a time of 4:59.01. Defending champion Reka Nyiradi secured the second position, finishing with a time of 4:59.50, followed closely by Liv Peebles, who completed the race in 4:59.81. Other notable performers included Sierra Tallman and Alli Mann, rounding out the top five with times of 5:01.35 and 5:02.60, respectively.

During the pentathlon, Mann made a significant impact by winning two individual events: the 100 freestyle in 50.96 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 56.62 seconds. Senior Abby Storm claimed victory in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 57.27, while Moa Bergdahl took the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.53. Tallman also showcased her skills by winning the 100 individual medley with a time of 59.89 seconds.

SDSU’s Strategic Success

SDSU holds a remarkable winning streak of 37 straight meetings against USD. This extends back to the 2000-01 season, encompassing victories in both the annual pentathlon and regular-season dual meets. The last time SDSU competed against USD in a regular-season dual meet was at the Aztec Aquaplex, where they recorded a decisive 117-86 victory, achieving the fastest times in all ten events.

In that meet, both Mann and her teammate Kaydence Bispo set impressive pool record times, highlighting SDSU’s consistent high performance across competitions.

Upcoming Competitions

Following the dual meet against USD, SDSU will face Pepperdine on October 9 at 10:30 a.m. PT, before participating in the Fresno State Invitational scheduled for October 10-11. These events will provide the team with further opportunities to demonstrate their skill and maintain their competitive edge in the swimming circuit.

The SDSU swim team’s preparation and recent performances indicate a strong season ahead, with several more opportunities to build on their accomplishments and competitive history.
