Coronado, CA – Kathleen Potter, a beloved member of the Coronado community, has passed away after struggling with Lewy body dementia. She was known for her vibrant life, dedication to family, and a long career in nursing. Kathleen’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of her family and friends, who remember her as easy to love.
Kathleen was born at the US Naval Hospital, North Island Naval Air Station, in Coronado, where she grew up and formed many lifelong friendships. As the youngest of six children of Dr. Stephen E. Flynn and Estelle Kinney Flynn, she was cherished by her older siblings. Kathleen attended Sacred Heart School through the 8th grade and graduated from Coronado High School in 1964.
Following high school, Kathleen attended Arizona State University for one year before returning home to Coronado. She pursued a career in medicine, obtaining her Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Southwestern College. Kathleen worked at several hospitals in the San Diego area, including Mercy Hospital and Alvarado Hospital. She also served as an office nurse in the Coronado office of Dr. Robert T. Plumb, further solidifying her commitment to her nursing profession.
In 1972, Kathleen married her high school sweetheart, Peter Gover, MD. Together, they had three sons: Ted, Joe, and Matt, all of whom graduated from Coronado High School. Kathleen took pride in her sons and maintained a close relationship with them throughout her life. Kathleen and Peter later divorced, but their bond remained strong for the sake of their children.
In 1996, Kathleen married Martin Potter, an attorney from Chicago. The couple enjoyed a life of travel and adventure, living in various locations including Coronado, Gig Harbor, WA, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego, and most recently, Ft Myers, FL. In retirement, Kathleen and Martin shared a passion for flying, often taking trips in their own airplane around the world.
Despite her achievements and fulfilling life, Kathleen faced health challenges in her later years. While living in Ft Myers, she experienced the effects of Lewy body dementia, a condition that ultimately led to her passing.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Martin Potter, and her three sons, Ted Gover, PhD (Sayuri), Joe Gover, and Matt Gover (Ann), along with their two children, Everett and Emarie.
