Coronado – Tim Chin has been appointed as the executive director of Emerald Keepers, marking the establishment of a new position within the environmental nonprofit organization. In his new role, Chin is dedicated to ensuring that the organization achieves its goals through measurable impact in environmental, social, and economic aspects.

As he settles into his leadership position, Chin has conducted an assessment of Emerald Keepers and is currently developing strategies aimed at enhancing the organization’s community impact. One of his primary responsibilities will involve overseeing the daily operations of Emerald Keepers while also serving as the public spokesperson for the organization.

Chin and his wife, Tina Twite, made the significant decision to relocate permanently to Coronado in June 2023, following a long-standing connection to the area, as Twite is a native of Coronado. The couple has two adult children, a son and a daughter, who currently reside in Newport Beach.

With a rich background in energy efficiency and sustainable building practices, Chin brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His expertise also extends to solar and battery storage. He obtained a degree in industrial technology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and previously launched the Southern California office for Enovity, a firm that has since been acquired by Veolia. After a company restructuring in 2023, Chin transitioned into a consulting business, which he will continue to manage alongside his responsibilities at Emerald Keepers.

The board president of Emerald Keepers, Kali Lindsay, noted that Chin was selected from seven applicants due to his unparalleled experience in leadership. His vision for the organization includes a concentrated effort on four key areas: water, waste, air, and energy. Chin places a strong emphasis on educating the community about the importance of preserving Coronado’s natural beauty and aims to combat the prevalent issue of single-use plastics.

In particular, Chin has identified PFAS, harmful chemicals commonly found in plastics, as a critical environmental concern that he seeks to address through public awareness and education initiatives. Known for his approachable demeanor, Chin often engages with community members during his walks with his dog Dakota, further fostering community involvement by picking up litter along the way.

Chin’s leadership style is characterized by his intelligence, thoughtfulness, organization, good judgment, and humor, qualities that have been acknowledged by friends and colleagues.

Emerald Keepers operates under the motto “Emerald Green, Ocean Blue,” reflecting its commitment to promoting environmental impact and sustainability within the community.

The organization aims to make notable contributions to the environmental landscape of Coronado, addressing critical issues that affect both the community and the broader ecosystem. With Chin at the helm, Emerald Keepers looks forward to cultivating a greater awareness and involvement in environmentally friendly practices among residents.
