Coronado is set to host the local premiere of the short film titled “Serenity Now”, which showcases the creativity and talents of novice filmmakers. The complimentary screening will occur on Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 3:30 pm in the Winn Room. This event celebrates the effort and dedication of a group of filmmaking students who came together to create a unique story centered around the world of pet care.

“Serenity Now” tells the tale of Lila, a frantic dog mom, who brings her humping dog, Wilbur, to a pet wellness spa owned by the eccentric Sage. Sage is convinced that she can remedy Wilbur’s antics using new-age potions and holistic treatments. However, despite the efforts of Sage and her chief canine therapist, Dr. Donatella, they are unable to help Wilbur, leaving Lila desperate for a solution. In a final attempt to resolve her dog’s troubling behavior, Lila devises a plan that ultimately impacts the lives of everyone involved in surprising ways.

Production of “Serenity Now” took place entirely in Coronado, where the filmmaking class met once a week at the Coronado Library throughout the summer. Following the instructional sessions, students dedicated an additional four weeks to the production phase, with three weeks allocated for editing and post-production work. This collaborative effort has allowed participants to gain invaluable experience in film production.

The film features remarkable aerial views of Coronado, capturing its picturesque landscape alongside beach scenes that highlight the local environment. With most of the cast and crew lacking prior filmmaking experience, this project served as a vital learning opportunity for everyone involved. As the event approaches, the production team is eager to share the finished film and engage with the audience during a Q&A session.

The screening event will not only showcase the film but will also include a discussion where the cast and crew will answer questions and share insights on how to effectively use smartphones for filmmaking. This offers a chance for aspiring filmmakers to glean tips from those who have just completed their first project. Refreshments will be available for attendees during the screening.

Family, friends, cast, crew, and the general public are encouraged to attend this free event, celebrating local filmmaking talent. “Serenity Now” provides an entertaining narrative while spotlighting the efforts of novice filmmakers in Coronado, marking a significant achievement in their creative journey.
