San Diego, California—The community is in mourning following the death of Eric Bauer, a beloved father and dedicated advocate, who passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His untimely death comes just days before what would have been his 47th birthday.
Born on September 12, 1978, in Norfolk, Virginia, Eric was the older son of Bill and Denise Bauer. He shared his childhood with a younger brother, Scott, born two years after him. Due to his family’s Navy background, Eric experienced a dynamic upbringing, living in various locations, including Virginia Beach, Vienna, Newport, and San Diego, which he eventually considered his home.
Eric was an outstanding student and athlete, known for his high academic performance as well as his athletic achievements. He consistently made the Honor Roll and was a skilled player in baseball, basketball, and cross-country running. Achieving a perfect game in Little League baseball marked one of his significant milestones, and he earned the nickname “Moneybags” in basketball for his exceptional shooting skills.
After completing high school, Eric attended the University of San Diego, where he pursued a degree in economics and continued his passion for running by competing in cross-country events. He later entered the legal field, graduating from California Western School of Law in 2003.
It was during his time as a camp counselor in Coronado that Eric met his future wife, Melissa Kissell. They married in June 2003 and initially lived in Coronado and Scottsdale, Arizona, before returning to San Diego to work in his family’s real estate business, Ocean Breeze Realty.
Eric and Melissa welcomed their first son, James, in November 2007 and subsequently had six more boys: Luke, Stephen, Philip, Thomas, Matthew, and Andrew. Eric’s life took a significant turn when he fully embraced Christianity later in life, committing himself to Christ after becoming a father at the age of 29. This faith deeply influenced his family life, leading him to engage his family in church activities and daily devotional practices.
Eric was known for being a devoted father, frequently participating in a variety of family activities, including sports, camping, and trips to the beach. His love and commitment to his family and community will be remembered fondly.
Following Eric’s passing, a Celebration of Life is planned for October 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California, with a reception following the service. Additionally, donations in Eric’s memory can be made to support his family through the website https://www.givesendgo.com/bauerfamily9.
The impact Eric Bauer had on his family and the community is profound, as friends and loved ones reflect on his life’s accomplishments and commitment to those around him. His legacy as a devoted father, advocate, and role model will continue to resonate in the hearts of many.
