Coronado Awards Scholarships to Local Graduates

Coronado, CA – Olivia McKissick and Scotlynn Peters were honored with the prestigious CWC Founders Scholarships during the Coronado High School Senior Awards event. Each scholarship is valued at $3,000 and recognizes the contributions of the nine founding members of the Coronado Woman’s Club (CWC).

The CWC, a philanthropic organization with nearly 60 members, has increased its scholarship offerings, returning a total of $30,000 to the community this year. The scholarship awards were presented by club member Linda Dugger, who emphasized the importance of values such as courage, wisdom, and compassion in the scholarship selection process.

Meet the Scholars

Scotlynn Peters has made a significant impact at Coronado High School through her involvement in the CoSA musical theatre program and her role as the ASB Executive Commissioner of Dance. Not only did she excel in the performing arts, but she also achieved strong academic performance in mathematics and developed an interest in history and geography. Peters plans to pursue a degree in Business Administration with a focus on marketing and entrepreneurship at San Diego State University.

In a parallel academic and extracurricular vein, Olivia McKissick has demonstrated a profound interest in sciences, particularly physics and chemistry. She has held leadership roles as President of the CoSA Council and NHS Event Coordinator, showcasing her commitment to community service and student leadership. McKissick is set to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she intends to major in Medical Humanities or Chemistry.

Club Support and Community Impact

The CWC’s ongoing philanthropic efforts play a crucial role in supporting local education and community initiatives. CWC President Kathy Fink expressed pride in aiding the academic pursuits of both McKissick and Peters. The scholarship funds are generated through the club’s various fundraising activities throughout the year.

The next CWC meeting is scheduled for October, and the organization invites community members to engage and learn more about its initiatives. More information is available on the CWC website, where residents can find details about membership and upcoming events.

Background on the CWC

Founded by a group of women dedicated to improving their community, the Coronado Woman’s Club has a long history of providing scholarships and support to local students. The foundation of the club was built on principles of charity, education, and community service, thus reflecting its commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders.

With the scholarships awarded to promising students like Scotlynn Peters and Olivia McKissick, the CWC continues to fulfill its mission, contributing to the educational growth of the youth in Coronado.
