Coronado Honors Lynda Wood as Soroptimist of the Year for Community Service

Coronado, California – Lynda Wood has been recognized as the Soroptimist of the Year for her unwavering commitment to community service, specifically during her term as the outgoing president of Soroptimist International of Coronado (SIC) for the 2024-25 year. This prestigious award is granted to members who exemplify dedication to the club’s mission, reflecting their length of membership and depth of service within Soroptimist International of Coronado and Soroptimist International of America.

Lynda joined SIC in 2011 and has since made significant contributions to the organization. Prior to her presidency, she served as the treasurer for five years, where she gained valuable experience that contributed to her impactful leadership. Under her guidance, the club expanded its outreach efforts, launching various projects that included initiatives in Mexico aimed at improving the lives of underserved communities.

One of Lynda’s notable achievements includes founding the Rotary Club of Coronado Binacional in 2012, where she has played a crucial role as treasurer/co-treasurer for eleven years and served as president in 2015. She has spearheaded essential clean drinking water projects for schools in Mexico since 2018. Currently, Lynda is directing the Jaws for Life project in her hometown of Nueva Rosita, Mexico, continuing her commitment to lifesaving initiatives.

In addition to her community service work, Lynda operates a bilingual English/Spanish tax preparation business, serving clients from the U.S., Mexico, and England for over thirty years. She collaborates with her husband, Daniel, on ACN, an online business platform focused on healthcare and telecommunication services. Furthermore, Lynda represents a Korean beauty product line called Riman, showcasing her diverse professional pursuits.

Lynda Wood was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. She moved to the United States after marrying Daniel, and together they raised three children: Vanessa, Melissa, and Danny. The family has grown to include multiple grandchildren. Lynda has been an active member of Sacred Heart Church since 1996, where her children also attended local schools. In her personal time, she enjoys a variety of activities including theater, movies, dancing, yoga, international soap operas, painting furniture, traveling, and walking.

The award ceremony took place during SIC’s year-end party at the home of members Gail and Bob Bardin. The event was attended by approximately 80 members and guests, featuring a silent auction, the announcement of two high school service award winners, and the installation of the new board for the 2025/26 year.

SIC members remain committed to their mission and continue to meet weekly throughout the summer at the Marriott Food Truck events every Thursday at 5 PM. Individuals interested in learning more about the organization are encouraged to attend SIC meetings or contact Jan Iwashita for additional information.
