Frustrated fans attempting to book hotel rooms during Comic-Con sale

News Summary

The recent hotel sale for Comic-Con 2025 in San Diego saw a chaotic scramble among fans hoping to secure accommodations. Many faced technical issues and confusion while trying to book their stays, resulting in a significant number leaving empty-handed. While some successfully booked rooms, the high demand left many frustrated as downtown hotels sold out quickly. The frenzy underscored the unpredictable nature of hotel bookings during this iconic event, prompting advice for better preparation for next year’s sale.

Chaos Erupts During Comic-Con 2025 Hotel Sale in Sunny San Diego

San Diego, the city known for its picturesque waterfront and vibrant culture, recently became the epicenter of a hotel booking frenzy as attendees scrambled to secure accommodations for the much-anticipated Comic-Con 2025. The final General Hotel Sale took place on April 24, 2025, causing a mix of excitement and sheer frustration among passionate fans.

The Stakes Were High

As one of the most iconic events in pop culture, Comic-Con offers an array of activities and attractions, but the challenge of finding a place to stay can often feel like a daunting quest. This year’s sale featured the last available hotel rooms in downtown San Diego, Mission Valley, Hotel Circle, Coronado Island, and near the airport. To sweeten the deal, some hotels not included in the Early Bird pre-pay option were also part of this sale.

With hotel rates skyrocketing on the open market, securing a room through Comic-Con International’s locked-in rates was especially crucial for attendees anxious to avoid inflated costs. Unfortunately, although Comic-Con provided minimal details ahead of time, the lack of comprehensive guidance left many attendees feeling uncertain.

Pre-Sale Confusion

Attendees were only informed of the sale date and time (9 AM PT) via email, leading to a swirl of misconceptions. A notable number of fans mistakenly assumed that there would be a waiting room available starting at 8 AM, as had been the norm in previous years. Instead, this year, all they got was a waiting room screen appearing at 8:57 AM. This slight change caused many to jump the gun, refreshing their screens starting at 8:58 AM in hopes of securing a reservation.

Those savvy enough to log into their onPeak accounts early—around 8:55 AM—were given a window into inventory options a tad sooner, while others using newly created accounts struggled to find available rooms due to the chaotic rush.

Technical Woes

As the clock struck 9 AM, the chaos unfolded like clockwork. Many attendees experienced a roller coaster of emotions as they faced game-ending error codes and unexpected redirects, ultimately losing access to the coveted waiting room. For some, the waiting room screen vanished altogether, and confusion reigned supreme. Adding to the mix, several individuals could only access their emails to retrieve the sale links after the sale had commenced, which didn’t further ease the mounting stress.
