The program aims to recruit 12-15 motivated high school interns who will be able to balance academics with hands-on leadership experience.

Students planning to enroll at Coronado High School in the upcoming fall are eligible to apply. The application window opens on August 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. and closes on August 31, 2025, at 5 p.m.. Interested students can submit their applications online via the program’s official website, emeraldkeepers.org/chs-internship-program.

Internship Requirements and Activities

The Emerald Keepers internship program requires students to complete a minimum of 35 volunteer hours, with at least 10 hours taking place during the fall semester. Intern activities encompass various environmental stewardship initiatives, including:

  • Working in the CHS Emerald Keepers Garden
  • Attending a minimum of four garden meetings in the fall and six in the spring
  • Volunteering at least four Emerald Keepers events, which may involve beach cleanups, Fixit Clinics, and participation in the Coronado Flower Show and Girl Scout World Thinking Day
  • Preparing and delivering a presentation at one public meeting on an environmental topic of the intern’s choice
  • Developing and implementing a personal passion project

To foster skill development and networking opportunities, monthly meetings will be held during lunch for interns. The first meeting of the year is scheduled for September 17, 2025.
