The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company showcases a stunning art nouveau design inspired by the sea.
A new seafood dining destination, The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company, is set to open in Coronado, replacing The Islander and Leroy’s. Focused on fresh seafood and exceptional service, the restaurant will offer a variety of oysters, classic cocktails, and a dine-in oyster bar experience. Executive Chef Paul Arias will lead the culinary team in creating innovative dishes that celebrate local traditions. Scheduled to open in January 2025, this establishment aims to enrich the Coronado dining scene with a unique blend of modern cuisine and local heritage.
Coronado is set to introduce a new seafood dining experience as Blue Bridge Hospitality announces plans to open The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company in January 2025. This restaurant will take over the former locations of The Islander and Leroy’s on Orange Avenue, marking a significant shift in the local culinary landscape.
The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company will focus on serving fresh seafood, a variety of oysters, and an array of classic cocktails and wines. This new venture highlights Blue Bridge Hospitality’s commitment to establishing a chef-driven restaurant that prioritizes quality ingredients and exceptional service.
The decision to close The Islander, which opened in July 2022, was made in September 2024. The closure reflects the company’s desire to explore a new direction to bolster its presence in the Coronado dining scene. This transformation allows Blue Bridge to reimagine the space and enhance the culinary offerings available to locals and visitors alike.
In homage to the area’s history, The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company has been aptly named to celebrate The Fish Company and The Avenue gift shop, both of which have roots in Coronado. Blue Bridge aims to blend contemporary dining with a nod to local heritage, providing a unique experience for clientele.
The restaurant will be helmed by executive chef Paul Arias, who brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at renowned establishments like The Fishery and A.R. Valentien. Chef Arias is focused on elevating the seafood dining experience in Coronado by presenting high-quality dishes that showcase innovative flavor combinations and seasonal ingredients.
Collaborating on the menu development will be Blue Bridge’s culinary team, led by Corporate Executive Chef Matthew Sramek. The carefully curated menu is set to feature a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood, appealing to both locals and tourists seeking an authentic seafood dining experience.
Patrons can expect a dine-in oyster bar, which will allow guests to enjoy the spectacle of freshly shucked oysters being prepared right before their eyes. This interactive dining element aims to enhance customer engagement and provide a memorable experience. In addition, The Avenue will offer weekday lunches, weekend brunches, and dinner service every night, catering to a diverse audience with varying dining needs.
As part of the transition, Dinky Donuts, a popular local establishment, will remain open in the development plans for the new restaurant, ensuring continuity in cherished local offerings.
The restaurant will feature an art nouveau design, drawing inspiration from the colors of the sea, including shades of seafoam green, blue, and lilac. This aesthetic aims to create a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that complements the high-quality culinary experience. Blue Bridge is committed to developing a customer-centric environment reminiscent of previous successful ventures, such as Leroy’s, further enhancing the dining experience.
The Avenue Fish and Oyster Company is positioned to become a notable addition to Coronado’s rich culinary tapestry, offering elevated seafood dining that embraces innovation while honoring local tradition. With its scheduled opening in January 2025, the restaurant is set to capture the attention of both residents and visitors, eager to sample its distinctive offerings in a beautiful setting.
