About the Coronado Woman’s Club

The CWC, established in 1947 by a small group of nine women, has developed into a significant community organization over its 77-year history. The club was officially incorporated in 1948 and in 1958 received a 40-year lease for a building facilitated by the Coronado City Council.

Throughout the decades, the club’s membership peaked in the 1960s with over 200 members. However, in recent years, CWC has faced a decline, with membership dropping to just 33 members in 2018. The club actively engages its members through various social, cultural, civic, and philanthropic activities, emphasizing the importance of friendship and community service.

Ongoing Impact and Initiatives

CWC engages in multiple fundraising activities throughout the year, contributing between $10,000 and $20,000 annually back into the Coronado community. Beneficiaries of the club’s generosity include local organizations and initiatives such as PAWS, the 4th of July Committee, scholarships for Coronado High School students, Friends of the Library, and various educational programs. The club also recently organized a successful Artisan’s Alley event that raised $2,000 for the Coronado Band and Choir Boosters.

Future Aspirations

Current CWC President Kathleen Fink has recognized a growing desire among women in the community to give back, hinting at potential increases in membership. The club aims to be more inclusive, welcoming women of all ages between 40 and 100, and is actively seeking new recruits from diverse backgrounds to join its ranks.

In addition to the Shredding Event, CWC holds regular meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, from October through June, at Stake Chophouse & Bar. Those interested in learning more about the club, its philanthropic efforts, or membership opportunities can find additional information on its website.
