Graduates from Coronado High School celebrate their scholarship awards in a community park.
The Coronado Junior Woman’s Club recently awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships to four outstanding graduates from Coronado High School’s Class of 2025. Each recipient will receive $2,500 to help finance their educational goals. The competitive selection process highlighted the impressive achievements and community service of the winners: Jaya Jost, Alivia Schmidgal, Olivia McKissick, and Chloe Quarles, each of whom has demonstrated remarkable dedication during their high school years.
The Coronado Junior Woman’s Club (CJWC) has awarded four Marilyn Foster Scholarships worth a total of $10,000 to inspiring graduates from the Coronado High School Class of 2025. Each scholarship recipient has been granted $2,500 to support their future educational endeavors.
This year’s selection process was highly competitive, with many applications showcasing outstanding achievements and compelling stories of resilience and community service. The four scholarship winners are: Olivia McKissick, Jaya Jost, Alivia Schmidgal, and Chloe Quarles.
Jaya Jost has made a significant impact during her time at Coronado High School, participating in multiple sports and extracurricular organizations. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been active in initiatives such as Emerald Keepers and Surfrider, as well as the crochet club. Currently training to become an EMT, Jost plans to attend UCLA to pursue a degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering.
Alivia Schmidgal has demonstrated her leadership as a cheerleader for both sideline and competitive teams. She has also contributed to the school newspaper and is a National Honor Society member. Schmidgal intends to study science and engineering at the University of Southern California (USC) in her ambition to become a military physician.
Olivia McKissick has participated in the CoSA Visual Arts program, the National Honor Society, Junior Optimists, and has been active in long-distance track at CHS. She is set to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, aiming for a career in medicine.
Chloe Quarles has excelled as captain of the varsity swim team and has been involved in the Associated Student Body, National Honor Society, and the Best Buddies program. She plans to major in biology and physiology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) with aspirations of attending medical school.
Established in memory of the late Mrs. Marilyn Foster, the scholarship honors her dedication to the Coronado community and reflects her belief that the strength of a community lies within its people. This year marks the sixteenth year that CJWC has presented the Marilyn Foster Scholarship to women graduating from Coronado who show outstanding community service and promise.
The CJWC has long been committed to supporting the educational achievements of young women, and the Marilyn Foster Scholarships serve as a testament to this dedication. The winners not only embody Mrs. Foster’s spirit but also represent the values of perseverance, community involvement, and aspiration. With this scholarship, they are one step closer to achieving their academic and career goals.
