The Rotary Club continues its commitment to various community services and fundraising initiatives, including health-focused projects and mental health awareness. Coronado – Dr. Natalie Bailey has been inaugurated as the President of the Rotary Club of Coronado for the 2025-26 year, taking on leadership amidst exciting preparations for the club’s centenary celebration in March 2026. As a lifelong resident of Coronado, Bailey’s deep-rooted connection to the community and the Rotary Club is highlighted by her extensive involvement throughout her life.
Bailey’s influence in Rotary began at a young age, inspired by her mother, Suzanne Popp, who has been a dedicated Rotarian for over 35 years and was the chapter’s first female president. In recognition of her early connection to Rotary, a donation was made in Bailey’s name shortly after her birth, earning her recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow. Her participation in youth exchange programs further solidified her commitment to the organization, including a two-week trip to Turkey.
During her school years, Bailey was actively involved in Rotary youth programs and attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp. After completing dental school, she officially joined the Rotary Club of Coronado and went on to establish the Rotaract club for young professionals, emphasizing community service as a core principle. This endeavor showcases her dedication to cultivating a sense of community and leadership among the younger generation.
A recent highlight for the Rotary Club was the success of the Low Tide Ride & Stride fundraising event, which surpassed its financial goals. Funds raised from the event contribute to various initiatives, with upcoming projects including a wine tasting event aimed at raising money for polio vaccine programs and additional health-centered projects. The Rotary Club has also partnered with Safe Harbor Coronado to promote mental health awareness through community engagement.
The club regularly organizes community service activities such as beach clean-ups and an annual golf tournament, demonstrating its commitment to local engagement and environmental stewardship. Weekly meetings convene at either the Coronado Yacht Club or the Coronado Cays Yacht Club, fostering camaraderie among members. The club’s focus on hands-on service projects is intended to attract and engage younger members, countering the perception that Rotary is solely for retirees.
Dr. Bailey’s experiences in the Rotary Club as a child have significantly influenced her strong dedication to community service. Her presidency will focus on broadening the club’s inclusivity, showcasing that Rotary is an organization suitable for all ages, not just older adults. She plans to introduce more interactive and community-driven activities, drawing on her experiences from her time in the Rotaract club.
As the club approaches its 100th anniversary, special events are planned in collaboration with the Coronado Historical Association to mark this significant milestone. Future events will include networking gatherings designed for younger professionals, reinforcing the club’s objective to actively engage with a broader demographic through innovative volunteering opportunities.
Adding a whimsical touch to recent gatherings, members introduced alpacas named Fern and Woodrow to meetings, sourced from a retirement animal rescue, highlighting the club’s creative approach to engagement. With these initiatives, Dr. Natalie Bailey is poised to lead the Rotary Club of Coronado into an exciting era that celebrates community and service while honoring its rich history.
In addition to her work with the Rotary Club, Bailey is also a practicing dentist at Advanced Dentistry, collaborating professionally with her mother. She expresses a deep sense of pride in her community and appreciates the intimate, close-knit feel of Coronado. As her term as president begins, Bailey is committed to strengthening ties within the community and ensuring that the Rotary Club remains a vital resource for the residents of Coronado.
