The Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado has launched ‘The ’70s! The Golden Age of the Album,’ a vibrant musical that runs through September. Co-created by Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington, it features iconic songs from legendary artists, captivating audiences with its nostalgic representation of the 1970s music scene. With performances showcasing manifold talents, the show hasn’t just become a tribute to the decade but also engages various generations through its rich array of performances and songs.
Coronado – The Lamb’s Players Theatre has officially launched the world premiere musical titled “The ’70s! The Golden Age of the Album”, which opened on June 17 and will continue its run through September 14. This vibrant production celebrates the significant musical contributions of the 1970s, a decade marked by an array of diverse sounds and poignant lyrics that continue to resonate today.
Co-created by Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington, with choreography by Christine Wisner Hall, the performance spans a total of two hours and twenty minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission. The musical showcases a collection of songs from iconic albums of the era, featuring renowned artists such as Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, and many others, engaging the audience in a nostalgia-filled experience.
The excitement in the auditorium was palpable, with audience members singing along and relishing the nostalgic vibe of the show. The energy radiating from the stage was described as infectious, with the performances captivating the crowd throughout. Cast member Caleb Schanzenbach made his debut in this production, impressively taking on multiple roles as a pianist, keyboardist, and singer.
Rick Ogden, a veteran performer, displayed his versatility by showcasing his skills on varied instruments including the saxophone, harmonica, and banjo. Other notable cast members include Nathan Nonhof, who energized the performance with his dynamic stage presence, and Avery Nelson, who delivered inspiring bass performances that added depth to the musical composition.
The show also features a rich assortment of songs from other well-known artists of the decade, such as The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Meatloaf, Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Marvin Gaye, and Aretha Franklin, offering a comprehensive musical journey through the 1970s.
Performance times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, alongside 2 and 7 p.m. shows on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sundays. The Lamb’s Players Theatre is located at 1142 Orange Ave., Coronado, making it accessible for both locals and visitors.
Ticket prices for “The ’70s! The Golden Age of the Album” range from $48 to $118. Discounts are available for seniors, veterans, active military personnel, youth, and young adults through the <35 Club, providing opportunities for a broader audience to enjoy this lively theatrical experience.
This production is not only a tribute to the musical influences of the 1970s but also a gathering of talents, from newcomers to seasoned performers, all coming together to deliver a memorable theatrical performance.
