During the past season, he recorded 34 RBIs and 27 stolen bases, highlighting his offensive prowess. His exceptional performance on the field also earned him an All-State title from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association in Class 6A.

Jaxon Baptist also had a standout season as a pitcher, finishing with an impressive 11-2 record. He maintained a 2.61 ERA and struck out 83 batters, showcasing his skill and effectiveness on the mound. Following his achievements, Baptiste has signed to play at Division I Alabama State University, marking an exciting step in his athletic career.

The successes of Wilson and Baptist were instrumental to Coronado High School’s collective achievements, particularly in securing the District 1-6A title. The Thunderbirds also recorded a bidistrict playoff win against Midland High, further demonstrating their strength as a competitive team. Both players were recognized as first team All-City by the El Paso Times.

This past season, the Thunderbirds exhibited strong performances in crucial matches, notably against Montwood and Eastwood, where they achieved two wins against Montwood (7-5 and 10-0) and one against Eastwood (4-3). The team’s victory over Eastwood was pivotal, propelling them into first place in the district with a 5-2 record, reflecting their growth and determination throughout the season.

Coach Orozco praised the team’s commitment and hard work during practices, as well as their effective pitching strategies, which were essential to their success. Wilson emphasized that the team’s victories were the result of a collective effort, particularly spotlighting the critical win against Eastwood.

Looking ahead, Coronado High School’s baseball team has key upcoming matches, including a game against Eastwood on March 25, followed by games against Socorro on March 28-29. These matches will be crucial for the Thunderbirds as they strive to build on their current success and continue their competitive momentum.

Coronado High School, which competes in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) – San Diego Section, is considered one of the smaller schools in the CIF, with an enrollment of about 1,000 students. The school participates in the City Conference, which includes four leagues: City, Central, Eastern, and Western. Placement in divisions is determined by performance or school size, depending on the sport involved.

In addition to baseball, Coronado High School has made a name for itself in other sports as well, especially in water polo, where the teams often compete at a high level in Division 1. Overall, the school’s athletic programs have demonstrated a strong competitive spirit, frequently holding their own against larger schools within the area.
