Corriere began his career in the military as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve after graduating from San Diego State University in 1960, where he earned a degree in teaching and was an accomplished athlete, earning letters in football and track. He also played baseball with the American Legion and practiced with the San Diego Padres while simultaneously serving in the National Guard.

Initially, Corriere served 13 years in various military capacities, including amphibious, air defense, artillery, military police, and logistics. During this time, he also held a vice president position at his father’s company, COROVAN, which grew to be the largest commercial moving company on the West Coast. After the family sold the company in 1974, Corriere transitioned to active duty in the U.S. Army, where he served for an additional 17 years.

Military Career

Colonel Corriere was first assigned to the Combat Arms Training Board, where his innovative techniques gained recognition and led to extensive travel to implement improvements in U.S. Army training. His outstanding work earned him the attention of leadership, and he was appointed military executive to General William DePuy, known for his pivotal role in restructuring the Army following the Vietnam War. Throughout his career, Corriere developed a notable friendship with General Colin Powell.

As a Colonel, Corriere further distinguished himself as the inspector general, tasked with addressing issues in a compromised three-state region. His responsibilities extended to working directly under both the Secretary of the Army and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Naval Affairs. Corriere played a crucial role in establishing military support for counter-drug efforts, reflecting his commitment to national security.

Honors and Accomplishments

Throughout his extensive military career, Colonel Corriere received numerous accolades, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and multiple Meritorious Service Medals. He was authorized to wear Army General Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and Inspector General badges, underscoring his dedication and contributions to the armed forces. Additionally, he advanced his education by earning a degree from the U.S. Army War College during his service.
