Coronado to Host West Coast Ironworks 58th Anniversary Concert

The West Coast Ironworks (WCIW), recognized as San Diego’s longest-running band, will celebrate 58 years of musical legacy at Coronado’s All-Class Reunion on Thursday, July 3, 2025. The reunion event will take place at Feast and Fareway, located at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course, 2000 Visalia Row, with a concert scheduled to start at 7:30 PM. Fans can purchase tickets for $10 for general admission or $25, which includes food.

Performing various hits from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, WCIW will engage both their loyal followers from the early days and music lovers of all ages. The current lineup includes longtime members Rich Heinz, John Chambers, Ric Lee, Gary Maltby, and Dave Gilbert, who are known for their legendary four-part vocal harmonies that have contributed to the band’s distinct sound.

About West Coast Ironworks

The WCIW was established in 1967 by a group of music-loving high school students from Coronado. They quickly became a staple in the San Diego music scene, with their early performances taking place at local venues such as the Coronado Municipal Pool, the Coronado Women’s Club, and the Coronado High School Gymnasium.

WCIW’s reputation grew as they gained exposure from appearances on KOGO’s Corner, hosted by Regis Philbin, and they made a name for themselves by winning the KGB Battle of the Bands in 1967. Their setlist during the competition included popular tracks like “Light My Fire” and “Born to Be Wild.”

Legacy and Community Connection

WCIW has continually adapted and evolved, experiencing numerous lineup changes over the decades. However, the essence of the band remains as they continue to perform for various occasions, such as corporate events, weddings, and house parties, with a customizable setlist to meet client requests. The established fan base enjoys their nostalgic performances while introducing new audiences to their classic rock repertoire.

The band has also created unique events in the past, including the innovative “Be There” concerts in the 1960s, which featured performances on marshland between Coronado and Imperial Beach. These events highlight their community connection and commitment to engaging their fans in memorable ways.

Upcoming Events

In addition to the reunion concert, WCIW will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a special event on July 23, 2025, at McP’s Irish Pub. This commemorative gathering will be free for attendees, marking another significant milestone in the band’s historic journey.

As WCIW prepares for their anniversary celebration, they continue to honor a rich legacy of classic rock music and a dedicated connection to the Coronado community, demonstrating that the love for music can transcend generations. Whether you are a lifelong fan or a newcomer to their sound, the upcoming performance promises to deliver an unforgettable musical experience.
