Coronado – Lynda Wood has been named the Soroptimist of the Year as the Soroptimist International of Coronado (SIC) celebrated her departure from the presidency. Her dedication and leadership over the past year resulted in the club recognizing her contributions at their year-end party, which saw the attendance of approximately 80 members and guests.

The Soroptimist of the Year award is given in recognition of an individual’s commitment to the club’s mission and the initiatives it undertakes. Criteria for selection included the length of membership and depth of service involvement with both the Soroptimist International of Coronado and Soroptimist International of America.

Lynda Wood has been an active member of SIC since she joined in 2011. Before stepping into the role of president for the 2024-2025 term, Lynda spent five years serving as treasurer. Under her leadership, the club broadened its outreach to engage in impactful projects across the border in Mexico.

In addition to her work with SIC, Lynda has a rich history of community service. In 2012, she founded the Rotary Club of Coronado Binational and has held multiple leadership roles within the organization, including serving as treasurer or co-treasurer for eleven years and as president in 2015. Since 2018, she has led initiatives to provide clean drinking water to schools in Mexico.

Lynda also spearheads the Jaws for Life project in her hometown of Nueva Rosita, Coahuila. Besides her community service initiatives, Lynda operates a bilingual English-Spanish tax preparation business that has flourished for over thirty years, serving clients across the U.S., Mexico, and England. Furthermore, she collaborates with her husband, Daniel, in an online business offering healthcare and telecommunication services through ACN and serves as a representative for Riman, a Korean beauty product line.

Originally from Nueva Rosita, Lynda was raised in Monterrey, Mexico. She moved to the United States after marrying her husband and has since resided in Coronado for several years. She is the mother of three children—Vanessa, Melissa, and Danny—and is also a proud grandmother. Lynda has been actively involved in the local community and is a member of Sacred Heart Church in Coronado since 1996. Her children attended schools in the area, including Sacred Heart School, Coronado Middle School, and Coronado High School.

The farewell event for Lynda featured a silent auction, highlights of the past year, and the introduction of two high school service award winners, illustrating the vibrant community spirit of the SIC. The organization continues to meet weekly during the summer at the Marriott Food Truck events, allowing for socializing and community engagement. Those interested in attending future meetings can reach out for additional details.

Lynda Wood’s legacy as the SIC president stands as a testament to her contributions in fostering community connections and enhancing the lives of those both in and outside of Coronado. Her multifaceted roles in the community and her unwavering dedication have profoundly impacted many lives, leaving a durable imprint on the local landscape.
