Kirk Henry was awarded the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award on November 13th at the “Gathering of Eagles” event organized by the San Diego Imperial Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award recognized Henry’s exceptional service to the community and his efforts to inspire others through his volunteer work.
During the ceremony, Henry was celebrated for his dedication and influence in the community. His extensive service through various organizations reflects a commitment to improving the lives of those around him. The National Eagle Scout Association created the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award in 2010 to honor distinguished Eagle Scouts who have made significant contributions to their communities. Previous recipients have included a range of prominent individuals from different fields, such as explorers, military officers, and scientists.
Kirk Henry’s journey began in Meridian, Mississippi, where his father was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. This early exposure fostered Henry’s interest in scouting, leading him to earn his Eagle Award while serving in Post 50 of Bernardsville, New Jersey. After completing his education at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, Henry served in the Army Air Defense in the Panama Canal Zone during the 1960s. His scouting skills proved invaluable during his military service, especially in challenging jungle conditions.
Upon concluding his military service, Henry embarked on a successful career as a lobbyist for Household Finance Corporation, a Fortune 50 company. Over a span of thirty years, he moved up through the ranks from a state lobbyist to lead the government relations department. In this capacity, he worked across multiple states including Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska, contributing to significant legislative efforts and community engagement.
After his retirement in 1995, Henry relocated to Coronado. His commitment to community service continued as he joined the Coronado Roundtable, where he has served on the board for two decades, including six years as President. Additionally, Henry is actively involved in his local homeowner’s association, where he fulfills the role of election inspector.
As a member of the Coronado Optimist Club, Henry’s dedication to community extends through various leadership positions, including serving on its Board of Directors. One of his notable initiatives included addressing safety concerns related to bulky trash pickup at his condominium. Henry took the initiative to cooperate with the city and trash collection companies to enhance community safety, demonstrating his proactive approach to local governance.
Kirk Henry’s recognition with the NOESA award underscores not only his personal achievements but also his unwavering commitment to uplifting his community. By integrating the values learned during his time in scouting into both his professional and personal life, Henry serves as an inspiration to many. His story reflects the enduring impact one individual can make through service, leadership, and dedication to the community.
As the San Diego Imperial Council continues to recognize exemplary contributions from Eagle Scouts, Kirk Henry stands out as a model of the values and principles upheld by the Boy Scouts of America.
