Track and Field Achievements

In women’s track and field, graduate student Amari Jenkins achieved a remarkable career-best time of 58.21 seconds in the hurdles at The Big West Championships, earning her a spot in the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Jenkins qualified for the West First Round with a time of 59.47 seconds, reflecting her strong performance this season.

Junior Feyi Olukanni shined in the women’s shot put, winning the championship title with a throw of 14.82 meters. She also set personal bests in the hammer and discus events, securing high rankings on UCSD’s all-time leaderboard, including second in shot put, fifth in discus, and eighth in hammer. Sophomore Cesar Salazar finished fourth in men’s shot put with a career-best mark of 18.07 meters, reflecting the growing strength of Triton throwers.

Baseball Highlights

In baseball, junior J.C. Allen delivered an impressive performance in the final home series against UC Davis by hitting four home runs, driving in nine runs, and scoring six times. He finished with a .444 batting average over the weekend and recorded five walks, resulting in a .667 on-base percentage. Junior left-handed pitcher Spencer Seid also made his mark by achieving a career-long 3.2 innings pitched, striking out eight batters and helping his team secure a shutout against UC Irvine.

Softball, Water Polo, and Golf

Senior right-handed pitcher India Caldwell led the Tritons to their first Big West conference championship victory, maintaining a strong ERA of 2.52 and registering 17 strikeouts throughout the championship games. In women’s water polo, senior Kendall Thomas scored four goals, aiding her team in a victory over No. 22 CSUN, showcasing the competitive spirit of Triton athletes in aquatic sports.

Meanwhile, in men’s golf, junior Nathan Tseng secured a third-place finish at the El Macero Classic, contributing significantly to the team’s triumph in their first full-field tournament win.

Recognition in Other Sports

In women’s basketball, sophomore Sumayah Sugapong was named the Tournament MVP during the Big West Championship, averaging 19 points and 14 rebounds across three games. On the men’s side, senior Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones played a crucial role in the Tritons’ success, averaging 17 points and 8.5 assists in the critical tournament.

Additionally, in women’s tennis, graduate student Julia Haynes achieved a perfect 3-0 record in singles, contributing to the team’s victories over rival programs. Senior outside hitter Ava McInnes made her mark by setting the UCSD women’s volleyball all-time program record with 1,531 career kills, finishing the regular season finale with 15 kills against Cal State Bakersfield.

Fencing and Track Records

In fencing, junior Sunny Sharma won the NCAA West Regional Men’s Epee Championship with a notable record of 9-1. Furthermore, junior Allyson Abandonato set personal bests at UC Irvine’s Steve Scott Invitational, establishing a new school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.88 and in the mile with a time of 4:56.94.
