Coronado, CA – Emerald Keepers is hosting a Hawaiian-themed fundraiser this April to promote awareness regarding critical water and air quality issues in the Coronado area. The event, titled “An Evening of Aloha,” is scheduled for April 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Coronado Community Center’s Nautilus Room.
The event aims to raise funds to support solar energy initiatives in the Coronado Unified School District, highlighting the organization’s commitment to sustainable practices. Emerald Keepers has been an active proponent of environmental protection in the area for the past six years, generating educational programs and conducting crucial research on local environmental conditions.
Emerald Keepers highlights ongoing air quality concerns in Coronado. Recent research indicates that air quality levels in the city are frequently lower than in nearby urban areas across the bridge. Though the precise factors contributing to this discrepancy remain unclear, the organization has installed several air quality monitors in homes throughout the city to gather pertinent data. This weekly publication of air quality information is geared towards identifying patterns and potential issues regarding local air conditions.
Regarding water quality, regular testing is conducted by the County of San Diego to ensure safety and compliance with health standards. These efforts align with Emerald Keepers’ broader commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the community.
The fundraiser will feature an art auction showcasing works from renowned artist and environmental advocate Robert Wyland, as well as decor from several local artists such as Tina Christiansen, Teresa Espaniola, Ana Violeta Horta, and Matt Swinden. Guests will also be treated to a special VIP reception, providing an exclusive preview of the art available for bidding.
During the event, Emerald Keepers will also acknowledge the 2025 Emerald Keeper of the Year, honoring individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions towards environmental protection in Coronado.
Attendees can look forward to a festive dining experience that includes tray-passed appetizers, a zero-waste buffet that highlights island-inspired dishes, and desserts paired with a hosted bar. The event will also prioritize sustainable practices by offering still and sparkling water in recyclable aluminum bottles provided by Open Water.
Entertainment will play a crucial role in the evening’s festivities, featuring performances by Hawaiian dancers from the Mahana Dance Company and live music by local artist Michael Gonzalez, also known as Gonzo. This blend of art and culture aims to enhance community engagement and foster connections among residents concerned about local environmental issues.
The fundraiser is made possible through sponsorships from several businesses including EDCO, Orion Capital Management, Orca Maritime Inc., Ken Pecus Group, and Suzanne Green CPA, among others. Individual tickets are priced at $85, while VIP tickets are available for $110, with table purchase options accommodating groups of six or eight attendees.
Those interested in participating must secure their reservations by the deadline of Saturday, April 19. Emerald Keepers remains hopeful that this event will not only raise essential funds but also strengthen community involvement in sustainable practices throughout Coronado.
