Exciting Collaboration in Coronado: High School and First Graders Join Forces for Award-Winning Animation!

Coronado is buzzing with excitement after students from Coronado High School (CHS) and Village Elementary School came together to create a stunning animation that’s not just impressive, but award-winning! The talented high schoolers and their enthusiastic first-grade partners collaborated on a unique project titled “Creatures in Motion”, which has earned a coveted spot in the upcoming exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art’s biennial youth exhibition, Young Art 2025: Nurture and Nature.

From Drawings to Digital: A Magical Journey

The magic began in the classroom, where first-grade teacher Brittany Lindquist guided her young artists in creating colorful drawings of original animals. Each creature was the product of pure imagination, with its own distinct personality and name, all inspired by the wonders of nature. Meanwhile, CHS Digital Arts instructor Anna Woerman and her students partnered with the kids to bring these creations to life!

The process involved some serious teamwork as high school animation students engaged with their younger counterparts, soaking up all the exciting details about each creature. With their art in hand, the first graders shared their visions, and the high schoolers translated those ideas into a captivating digital format. The animation journey included crafting movement through animated walk cycles and designing vibrant backgrounds that reflect the natural habitats of these imaginative characters.

A Celebration of Creativity

The project was submitted to the Young Art 2025 juried exhibition by Woerman, and the local community couldn’t be prouder. An artists’ reception and celebration for students and their families has been scheduled for April 3, 2025. Following the celebration, the public will have access to view the exhibition from April 5 to May 18, 2025, at the Museum of Photographic Arts, part of the San Diego Museum of Art.
